Kiss Halloween nail strips

October 30, 2014

These were fun! I could not pass them up in Walgreens… in September.

I waited until October to wear them, even though it was difficult for me! (Though secretly I was stoked that I’d picked them up when I did because they disappeared in two weeks.)

These simply press on like a sticker, then you file the edge smooth. They smell/feel like polish, but the tipwear is a little bit worse in my opinion. Here’s my stumpy thumb so you can see the pattern.

I really like these! Even though I’m not a big fan of the funky French manicure aspect, I would buy again. Anyone else try these for Halloween?

Blogs to read: Scrangie

October 13, 2014

Scrangie. Of course Scrangie. So much so that it’s probably silly to write about why you should read Scrangie since everyone already does! But I’ll do it anyway, because maybe, just maybe, there’s a noob out there who doesn’t realize all that Scrangie has to offer.

Here’s why her blog is the ultimate nail polish blog:

-Pictures. Ok, she has perfect nails. They are long and pretty and even when they are shortish they are long and pretty. Ugh! And the photos she takes are always nice and crisp.

-The archives go on nearly forever.

-She reviews many brands that I hadn’t even heard of.

-She’s opinionated and not afraid to say when she hates something.

-She writes excellent color and formula descriptions accompany every opinion.

-There are video game references hiding everywhere!

Same is true of everything she reviews: makeup, perfume, lotions.

I also wanted to send her awesome happy internet vibes since it’s her blog that first told me about Depression Awareness month in October. I love her openness – it helps me have the courage to talk about it myself. Hope you enjoy her blog as much as I do!

A new Neeka photo

October 2, 2014

I think I forgot to post this one when I last talked about Neeka. Please ignore the embarrassing outfit photo. I don’t feel right taking it down but I also hate it. ANYWAY

A black plum inspired me to put Neeka on again, and look how sparkly!

Misc 003

This one never disappoints, even when I apply it lazily and have a secret bald spot that I didn’t see until just now. And it wears like iron! I think this one will be on rotation this fall.

National Coffee Day – with Philz and Zoya Casey

September 30, 2014

IMG_1338.JPG

I love a good coffee… Might as well put this here since it’s National Coffee Day!

Philz makes a strong cup of pourover coffee, then shakes up really rich cream, creating a foamy effect without steaming the milk. It’s delicious.

The photo doesn’t show the color, but I’m wearing Zoya Casey, my absolute favorite “vampy” color. It’s way overdue for a re-shoot, so I’ll put that on my to do list.

Maybelline Color Show Gilded Rose

April 9, 2014

Glitter time! I have recently realized that I love rose gold.

Color Show Gilded Rose

Color Show Gilded Rose

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this color! It “covers” in two coats and dries very quickly. I say “covers” because the base is heavy with gold glass fleck, which means that light shines through the flecks at certain angles and shows up at most angles as bright gold. (That also makes it difficult to photograph.)

The rumors that it chips easily are true. It comes off in huge chunks within a day or so.

Because of the fantastic color and quick dry time, it’s easy to throw this on before a dinner date, sans topcoat. When it comes time to remove though… UGH GLITTER. I might try some of that OPI glitter base. If I do, I’ll let you know!

Essie Chubby Cheeks

August 8, 2012

This is my favorite summer color this year, Essie Chubby Cheeks:

Full sun

It’s a creamy jelly or a jelly-ish cream. You can see plenty of VNL at two coats here, but I still love it. Different lighting will shift the color toward pink, but it always looks yummy.  <3

Essie Rock the Croc

November 28, 2011

I’ve been lemming this Essie ever since kittytokaren’s hunt for the perfect red. On to the photo:

My photo is nothing compared to hers, please go click that link. This is a brown-toned jelly red that glows. Can something glow darkly? I think this does. It’s extremely glossy and a pain to apply, but so so worth it. I like this one so much that I’m having a hard time putting on anything else.

On the other hand, jellies seem to have to shortest wear time on me. Wear time is like this: Good glitters>Cremes>chippy glitters>jellies. Anyone else?

China Glaze For Audrey

November 26, 2011

China Glaze produced this lovely Tiffany-inspired blue and called it For Audrey (as in Hepburn – Breakfast at Tiffany’s) I picked it up since it seems to be a staple.

Scrangie says it’s one of her favorite teals and it certainly looks lovely on her. On me? I don’t think it’s too flattering. It probably doesn’t help that the formula was a little gummy. What do you think? Is it just too stark for me?

Zoya Jem

November 19, 2011

I picked up a couple more Zoya colors thanks to Zoya’s excellent Halloween Treat (do yourself a favor and follow them on Twitter – you will get lots of deals this way!)

Zoya Jem! This is a beauty. Two smooth coats of velvety, glittery color. The duochrome flash is stronger in the bottle, but you’ll experience it on the nail as either a nice plummy purple:

Or as a reddish color with gold highlights:

sun

In the bottle there you can see it chrome-ing its way to a bright yellow but it never gets there on my nails. I love this color wholeheartedly. It’s a gorgeous color in the reliable Zoya formula. Could not be happier.

It’s been really hard to get passably decent pictures since all my daylight hours are spent at work – but I will keep trying! If you want another shot of a particular polish, please let me know!

Essie Lapis of Luxury

November 15, 2011

Need a break from glitter? Step into the serene embrace of Essie’s Lapis of Luxury:

lamp light

I had to take these in the dark so they are funky. Blue/purple is hard to photograph true to color anyway. This one is my perfect periwinkle. It’s soft and dusty, but I can’t decide whether it’s purple or blue. Perfect.

white balance!

Here’s another view with a different white balance. On my screen, this shot makes it look totally blue, but it’s definitely periwinkle. This is a 3-coater, but the coats dry glossy and smooth. This is one of those Essies that has a translucent finish, not see-through, but deep-looking? It has to be seen to be believed, and it’s my favorite thing about Essie.

I thought I’d try something new for me… a funky french!

Funkity

This is my very first attempt at freehanding tips. It came out okay… perhaps it’s worth trying again! By the way, this color is part of Essie’s retail line, so you should be able to find it at CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, Walmart, Target, etc. I love it when they are easy to get. :D
