Essie Chubby Cheeks

August 8, 2012

This is my favorite summer color this year, Essie Chubby Cheeks:

Full sun

It’s a creamy jelly or a jelly-ish cream. You can see plenty of VNL at two coats here, but I still love it. Different lighting will shift the color toward pink, but it always looks yummy.  <3

Happy Halloween!

October 31, 2011

Here’s a quick shot of China Glaza Papaya Punch, a great Halloween orange (but also an all-time favorite for this lover of all things orange!)

The formula isn’t great – mine feels really sticky/goopy. I do think it was opened and perhaps fooled with before I bought it because the bottle neck was messy with polish. But hey! I will deal to wear this orange.

Do you wear holiday-themed colors or nail art?

Shorties – Essie Clambake

September 23, 2011

My nails were still peeling a bit so I decided to go shorter. I guess I went a little too far this time! What looks good on short nails?

I like vampy colors, of course, but also jellies when I don’t have a lot of free edge to show contrast through the polish.

I know I’ve shown Essie Clambake before, but it’s the first thing I reached for to cover my nubs. What do you like to wear on short nails?

Confetti Papa-razzi

September 15, 2011

Come on Fall! I got really irritated by the 90-degree weather last week, so I decided to encourage the arrival of the next season with Confetti Papa-Razzi, a glittery pumpkin color:

Yes, that is a pumpkin spice latte! I thought it might help with my little ritual.

It *has* to be fall now, right?

This is three coats. It’s a reddy-orange jelly with gold glitter/shimmer. I started thinking of it as “electric pumpkin.” I really expected this one to be like My Favorite Martian, but I think it looks more like a foil than a glitter on my nails and I just can’t get into it. :(

I will find a new home for this one as soon as I can.

A note about my coffee habit – at this point it takes four coffee shops to support me. This is obviously Starbucks, which provides me with sticky-sweet hot drinks and stays open until 9 PM. For amazing loose-leaf tea, unique pastries, decaf, and a not-too-sweet coffee frappe drink, I visit our town’s mom ‘n pop shop, which I will call IndieCoffee. For freshly roasted (caffeinated) brewed coffee, croissant and scones, I visit the new LocalBakery. And sometimes when IndieCoffee is closed, I will go to Peet’s for tea or for peppermint hot cocoa, yum.

Am I the only one with four coffee shops?

Essie Clambake and Whales

September 5, 2011

Remember how I promised to update you on an animal-themed piece of clothing sort of similar to the ones Stephanie at Short ‘n Chic likes?

I found it on sale for $8:

Photo from Urban Outfitters

But they only had medium. And, to understate it, the top didn’t fit. With a little bit of amateur hour at the sewing machine, voila!

To do something similar for yourself, fold, pin, iron, cut, then sew.  It won’t be even but mostly only you will know.

I decided I needed Essie Clambake, a gorgeous orangey-red jelly:

oo jelly

It has great formula, but like most jellies, you’re going to have VNL unless you put a creme underneath. This is one rather thick coat of Sand Tropez (allowed to dry for a long time) and three coats of Clambake. I love this color! It also goes pretty perfectly with Sephora’s lipstick in It Girl. Sephora’s Rouge Cream lipsticks are okay, especially for $12, but they have a weird shape and a pretty strong smell. Here’s my It Girl smirk:

heehee, matching

Try not to laugh. Now to celebrate with a frosty soft drink that happens to match:

It was a good day.

Milani Juicy Glo

August 30, 2011

This is the polish from my Hall of Shame. I am still trying to grow out the stains, and I always use base coat.

full sun

But look! So so gorgeous! I love orange and this thing called to me from the rack. It’s my first Milani polish and if I don’t get over my fear of stains, perhaps my last.  This is two coats (great for a jelly, right?) and topcoat. I can see my nail line if I stare hard but I love jellies.

It’s a bright orange but I wouldn’t call it neon. In some lights it looks redder than orange, but it’s not really coral either.  Maybe coral with the volume way up.

I’ll probably try it again with my new Seche Base instead of the old Sally Hansen I was using when the staining occurred. Wish me luck because otherwise this bottle is donezo!
